U.S. citizens can petition for their fiancé (K-1) and their children (K-2) to enter the U.S. to get married here. Once married, the spouse can decide to return to their home country or stay and apply for a U.S. green card.

Spouses who obtained their residence through a marriage petition prior to being married for two years, receive what is known as conditional permanent residence. This status lasts for two years, and the spouse must file to remove the conditions of their residence during the 90 days prior to the expiration of this status.
